Author's Thoughts

Whether it is a favorite stuffed animal, a magical rock, or a Cozy Comforter, there is a mystical connection between a young child and his or her special object. These magical connections early in life enable children to use their innocence to unlock doors to other worlds. Encouraged by our imaginations, they brought us escape and joy.  But as we grow older, we become preoccupied by the distractions of everyday life, and we no longer have time to take these magical journeys.

Some of us never forget how much these special objects mean. For these lucky few, the objects of our youth never truly lose their ability to communicate with us; they serve to remind us of the beautiful security and endless possibilities of childhood. As we watch all children, especially those who are most dear to us, we can truly appreciate the limitless value of these objects. Whether it is a soft comforter’s silky edging rubbed gently between fingertips, the soft wing of a stuffed owl pressed lovingly to a cheek, or the arms of a warm blanket pulled tightly around on a cold, rainy afternoon, we observe the power of these seemingly ordinary objects to bring comfort, companionship, and peace to children whenever the world around them seems unpredictable, unfamiliar, or difficult to understand.

These little objects of stability are what little hands reach for most, and though they may seem trivial at times, I can assure you that to our children, they mean so much more. So sit back and open the pages of The Cozy Comforter and allow a time-worn blanket named Oswald and his favorite little girl, Brealyn, to take you into their world for a bit and help you, even for a few moments, recapture the innocence and imagination of childhood.
